Nitya Jain

Sixth Grade Science Teacher

Nitya Jain earned a B.S. in biomolecular engineering & bioinformatics, a B.A. in philosophy, and a minor in computer science from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her teaching journey began as a daycare teacher while in high school, continued through peer tutoring in various university STEM courses, and expanded to leading lessons in game development for high school students. She has experience in mentoring tutors and has presented at conferences on equitable tutoring strategies. Nitya’s research background spans microbiology, evolutionary genomics, and mitochondrial biology. She is excited to blend her research and educational experiences to empower students in finding their own unique intersections of interest within science. Outside of the classroom, Nitya loves to rock climb, swim at the beach, hike, play board games, and read.
