High School Night Featuring a Panel of BPC Alums
On Thursday, October 23, 15 BPC alums returned to campus to participate in a panel discussion at the annual High School Information Night in the FAD Theater. High schools represented included Berkeley High, St. Mary’s, College Prep, Head Royce, Marin Academy, and Bentley. Approximately 100 people attended the 90-minute event.
Interim Head of Upper School Andra Marziano moderated the evening. She began by asking each panelist a series of specific questions about academics, culture, size, transitions, the application process, and more. She then opened up the conversation for questions from the audience. These centered around admissions testing, interviews, making friends, homework and academic rigor, clubs and other activities, and transportation to and from school.
The purpose of this event is to have current high school students share their unique, personal high-school experience with current 8th-grade students and their families as part of BPC’s efforts to support students as they consider the next step of their educational journey. In addition to this gathering, every 8th grade family is offered the opportunity to meet with Ms. Marziano or Head of School Jase Turner to help determine the best high-school fit for each student. In addition, 8th graders travel to local schools to see those campuses in person, and other high schools come to BPC to present during lunchtimes.
A wonderful side benefit of the High School Information Night is the chance to listen to our alums and experience the results and benefits of a BPC education. It is impressive and a source of pride.
