Sage Ellenwood
Seventh Grade Science Teacher
Sage Ellenwood earned his undergraduate degree in psychology and child development from Michigan State University. He spent five years working in youth mental health before completing his master’s in education. For eight years, he taught in Oakland, where he founded and ran a makerspace, coached a team of business students to a state championship win, built a tiny home, and started a school garden. Sage has followed many interests throughout his life – from pre-med studies and working toward becoming a surgeon, to cooking at Chez Panisse, and studying astronomy. This spirit of exploration carries into the classroom: he’s taught and developed a wide range of courses, including science, engineering, fashion, cooking, philosophy, and robotics. His entrepreneurship course (BUILD) served as a model for a national program that blends product design and business education. He has also mentored early-career teachers through the credentialing process. Sage joined the BPC faculty in 2023 and loves guiding middle school students in their scientific discovery and helping them find joy in learning. Outside the classroom, he enjoys board games, rock climbing, reading, and traveling the world with his wife and daughter.
