Third Grade Head Teacher
Daniel Hughes graduated from Hamilton College in 2012 with a B.A. in economics. After a short stint as a financial advisor, he reconnected with his passion for coaching and teaching at Avenues: The World School, in New York City. There, he coached both soccer and basketball and taught first grade for four years. When Avenues announced its second campus in São Paulo, Brazil, Dan jumped at the opportunity and moved south. In São Paulo, Dan taught third, fourth, and fifth grade while also coaching the girls varsity basketball team. When he is not teaching, Dan loves playing soccer, biking, hiking, gardening, and eating good food. He grew up in Chicago and London and is an avid supporter of the Chicago Bulls and Arsenal F.C. He is looking forward to living in the East Bay with his wife Julia and two cats, Zoé and Paçoca. Dan is excited to join BPC this year as the third grade head teacher.
Why I Work with Children
I think there is so much joy in learning and discovering new things. I love being around kids because it is important to remind ourselves that play and discovery are important parts of our lives as adults as well.
