Michael Gutierrez
Upper School Academic Support Specialist and Seventh Grade Drama Teacher
Michael Carlos Gutiérrez has held various roles in his decade of experience as an educator, including tutor, advisor, researcher, and teacher. He received his B.A. with honors in Spanish, education, and public health sciences from the University of California–Davis, where he also completed the University Honors Program as a Regents Scholar. Michael authored and published his honors thesis, “Counterstories of Honors Students of Color,” on the microaggressive experiences of honors students of color in higher education. He has tutored math, science, Spanish, and English at the elementary, secondary, and postsecondary levels and has also served as an independent college admissions consultant. Aside from his work in education, Michael has multiple years of experience working in clinical settings at Alameda Health System as a public health professional, facilitating pioneering emergency department research on domestic violence, COVID-19, and HIV/AIDS. Also a singer, actor, dancer, musician, writer, chef, and tennis player, Michael recently completed an intensive two-year professional acting program in the Meisner technique. He is thrilled to have the honor of supporting students on their academic and artistic journeys in his second year at Black Pine Circle School.
