It’s Concert Season at Black Pine Circle School!

Black Pine Circle School infuses music into every facet of our K–8 education, creating a celebration of creativity and connection.
The annual K–8 Spring Concert is a joyful and inspiring showcase of the musical journeys our students have embarked on throughout the year. On May 22, we came together as a community at the First Congregational Church in Oakland for this musical extravaganza, when every student in the school performed. Whether they were singing with their class or playing ukuleles, xylophones, recorders, or steel pans, our students had been working hard to prepare for this special performance–a culmination of their learning in music classes, K–8, and in our music enrichment programs: band, orchestra, and strings.
Earlier this month, we hosted the annual All Bands Concert, “Swing, Swing, Swing” in the FAD Theater. The performance by our Junior, Concert, and Advanced Band students focused on the swing tradition and celebrated the music of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Benny Goodman, and more.
Congratulations to our Advance Band Ensemble for an amazing performance at Music in the Parks at the end of April! This was the first year that the band performed at this event and we’re delighted to announce that they were awarded the first place rating of “excellent” for schools under 750 students.
We are so proud of our young musicians and impressed by the dedication they show to their craft. It is inspiring to see their commitment to be the best they can be. We are grateful for the accolades but our focus in band is always on the journey, the joy of making music together, and in improving as musicians.
