Introducing Mini Term at BPC
BPC’s new week-long intersession program for our middle school students, February 12-16, was a great success. Designed to offer unique classes that foster relationships across grade levels, these classes centered on fun special interest subjects that spark passion in teachers and students alike. Midway through the week, our students and teachers partook in a day of “We Love the Bay” field trips to a wide variety of locations, including Glide Memorial Church SF, Angel Island, Oakland Museum, The Exploratorium SF, UC Berkeley, and BAMPFA, where they got together to learn with yet another group of students.
Mini Term week took place when about half of our 8th grade students were on a 10-day language and culture trip to Guatemala. BPC created Mini Term to ensure that this week was a meaningful learning time for all students by providing an opportunity for them to explore new interests and connect with more students and faculty members in our community.
For the week of Mini Term, students took two Mini Term courses, three hours in length each day, taught by a BPC teacher. Offerings included SCIENCE FOR SURVIVAL: Wilderness Edition, PODCASTING, PROJECT RUNWAY: Recycle Fashion Making, and MULTIMEDIA & ART INSTALLATION, and more.
