March for Our Lives Activists Visit BPC

march for our lives_3

On Thursday, March 14, Sofie Whitney and Tyah Roberts, two students affiliated with Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida and the March for Our Lives movement spoke with our 7th and 8th graders about the importance of youth activism and coming together to work toward change.

The students were visiting as representatives of the March for Our Lives organization, which was honored by UC Berkeley with the The Mario Savio Youth Activist Award.

This was an important opportunity for our students to learn from other young people about youth leadership and civic involvement. Sofie and Tyah covered topics as wide ranging as what it’s like to be a teenager and impact policy, and how to find joy in organizing others toward a better world. Our students asked excellent questions and Mario Savio’s widow, Lynne, was able to talk with the students about the need for powerful movements to have many, many voices from all walks of life.
