Gary Borden

Partner, The City Fund

Gary is a partner at the City Fund, an organization dedicated to transforming urban public school systems to improve opportunities for society’s most vulnerable children. In this role, Gary and his colleagues invest over $100m annually in the creation of high quality school systems and supports for students. Previously, as the executive director of CCSA Advocates and senior vice president for civic affairs at the California Charter Schools Association, Gary ran advocacy, policy and politics for California’s charter schools and the 600k students they serve. He has been deputy executive director at the California State Board of Education, overseeing the state’s k-12 education policy development. Gary is trained as a lawyer, though presently non-practicing. He sits on the boards of several education-centered organizations, all focused on measurably improving educational attainment for our nation’s youth. Gary lives in Oakland with his wife and son, though you’re as likely to find him in more remote parts of California enjoying our state’s beautiful outdoors.
