Alper Atamturk

Earl J. Isaac Chair, Science & Analysis of Decision Making, Prof. & Dept Chair, Industrial Engineering & Operations Research, UC Berkeley

Alper Atamturk is the Earl J. Isaac Chair in the Science and Analysis of Decision Making, professor and chair of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at the University of California, Berkeley. Alper teaches and does research in optimization, a field in the intersection of mathematics and computer science on obtaining best outcomes under constraints. He serves as the chair of INFORMS Optimization Society, UC Berkeley site director of the National Artificial Intelligence Institute for Advances in Optimization, director of Berkeley Computational Optimization Lab, co-editor/associate editor of several academic journals in the optimization field. Alper is a Fellow of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science, and a National Security Faculty Fellow of the US Department of Defense. Alper serves as an advisor to a number of companies, universities and government agencies. He loves to hike and sail, and resides in El Cerrito with his spouse and two daughters, one of them a current student at, the other a graduate of Black Pine Circle School.
