Congratulations to our fifth-grade student who won first place in the Food Waste Prevention Week 2026 Art Contest! Their creative comic strip poster highlights the importance of preventing food waste and earned top honors (and a cash prize) in a nationwide competition.

During gardening class, fourth and fifth graders explored the environmental impact of food waste, including how food decomposing in landfills contributes to climate change and how composting returns nutrients to the soil to grow new plants. Students were then invited to enter the poster contest as an optional activity, and several chose to participate.

This achievement is a wonderful example of how students at BPC use their creativity to raise awareness about important issues. We are so proud of them for sharing their message and helping inspire others to take action!
