Fifth Grade Head Teacher
Stephanie Colker was raised in London, England in a French and American family and attended high school and college in the U.S. She graduated from Lake Forest College, Illinois with a B.A. in French literature after which she moved to Paris in 2007 to begin her teaching career as an English as a Second Language instructor. Ms. Colker studied with the Maria Montessori Training Organization in London and qualified as a Montessori directress. After two years as a class directress, teaching in a mixed-age elementary school classroom, she became head of school for the Maria Montessori School. She has also completed her Institute of Education masters module in special needs education. Her teaching philosophy states that “today’s learners are tomorrow’s leaders,” and she is careful to incorporate that ethos in her everyday interactions with each individual child. Currently, Ms. Colker is acquiring a masters in educational leadership and administration with the Bay Area Teacher Training Institute and in partnership with University of the Pacific Benerd School of Education. In her personal time, she loves dancing, listening to music, reading, practicing yoga, and embarking on outdoor adventures with her husband and son. Ms. Colker joined the Black Pine Circle School faculty in 2014 as the second grade head teacher and this is her second year as fifth grade head teacher.
Why I Work with Children
I never lose sight of the fact that children are our future. I try to empower and celebrate humanity through each child being seen and supported.
A Favorite Book
Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It captures childhood nostalgia so beautifully. I remember it being the first book that really spoke to my heart.
