Hannah Lesser

First Grade Assistant Teacher

Ms. Lesser is local to Berkeley and is grateful for the opportunity for urban adventures and partaking in the culinary diversity of the East Bay. Since graduating from Oberlin College in 2008, she spent a decade working as an experiential educator with children and teenagers throughout the Bay Area. She is in her second year as a Bay Area Teacher Training Institute student, pursuing a master’s in education while working in the classroom. Ms. Lesser is looking forward to being the assistant teacher in first grade this year after her first year at BPC as the fourth grade assistant teacher. When not dreaming up creative projects for her students, Ms. Lesser loves to work in her garden, take walks with her cat Lillen, and cook delicious meals. Ms. Lesser lived on a farm in Italy in 2013 and learned extensively about organic goat cheese production. She is passionate about making friends with neighborhood cats, social justice, and documentary films.

Why I Work with Children

Children are the future. Being a part of their pondering, learning, and growth is fascinating and rewarding. The abundant creativity of kids inspires me!

A Favorite Book

Julían is a Mermaid because the illustrations are gorgeous, the understanding and acceptance that Julían’s grandmother has for them brings me joy, and I also want to be a mermaid.
