Director of Learning Services, School Therapist
Deborah Raphael is director of learning services and the school therapist. Ms. Raphael is a licensed clinical social worker and retired associate clinical professor at the University of California, Berkeley. She earned her bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley and her master’s degree in social work from Smith College in Northampton, MA. Beginning in 1990, she was part of the UC Berkeley clinical research team for The School Children and their Families Project, studying the relationship between school success and child-parent relationships. For twenty-one years she supervised the clinical work of Ph.D. candidates in the Department of Psychology at UC Berkeley. From 2006 to 2016, Ms. Raphael worked part-time as a consultant and psychology teacher at Maybeck High School in Berkeley. Ms. Raphael has been working therapeutically with children and their families for forty years and continues her private psychotherapy practice in Kensington. An East Bay native, Ms. Raphael is the mother of two grown daughters.
