Barbara Bañez

Assistant Director - Extended Day Program, Lower School Office Assistant

Barbara Bañez was born and raised in San Francisco. She developed a lifelong love for making, which led her to study design, sculpture, and interior architecture at City College of San Francisco and the Academy of Art University. She was an assistant teacher, and lead art teacher, in kindergarten through fourth grade at St. Theresa School in Oakland for the five years prior to joining BPC as a lower school assistant teacher in 2007. Barbara has completed Alameda County’s Integrated Learning Specialist Program. For many years she also taught art classes as part of our after-school clubs program. Barbara has assisted in grades 1st-5th over the years and supported our distance and hybrid learning cohorts, including distance learning art classes in the lower school. She has worked as house manager at Contra Costa Civic Theater since 2010. She is the parent of a BPC graduate and enjoys making art, doing jigsaw puzzles, designing floral arrangements, yoga, camping, mountain bike riding, and reading.

Why I Work with Children

I struggled as a student, especially with math and spelling so I had to get creative to solve problems. Now I can recognize when a student struggles and can find ways to relate the material or situation to them in a new or different way.
