Support and Love Our School – Other Ways to Give
“Act as if what you do makes a difference, it does.”
- William James
Volunteering nourishes and sustains our community. Students see parents involved in the life of our school and all benefit. It is a critically important way individuals support our school, giving selflessly of their time and talents. Volunteerism is primarily managed through Parent Circle, which circulates and maintains a volunteer sign-up sheet with a multitude of tasks throughout the school year. Parents are strongly encouraged to volunteer for a minimum of 3-5 tasks per family. From the board of directors to those driving for field trips, BPC relies on a “barn-raising” spirit to stretch tuition dollars and foster real involvement and a sense of community investment, ownership, and pride.
Parent Circle and Room Parents
Parent Circle is largely comprised of representatives (typically 2-3) from each of the nine grades. Parent Circle provides families with another avenue to connect with the classroom and the larger school. The heads of Parent Circle work closely with the school administration to plan, provide feedback, collect and distribute important information, identify opportunities, and fill needs. Parent Circle produces the Back to School Picnic, the Asian Lunar New Year Festival, and many other events during the year. Parent Circle meets on the second Tuesday of the month during the school year. For more information about Parent Circle and to access useful links, click here.
Room parents and heads of Parent Circle are recruited at the end of the school year for the following year. If you are interested in becoming a room parent, or have a comment or question, you may contact the heads of Parent Circle at email@example.com.
Periodic capital campaigns provide additional funds for campus improvements. Past campaigns have included the FAD renovation, the Founders’ Building (library), the climbing wall, the purchase of the Addison Street property. Currently, BPC is in the midst of the Campaign for The Q Lab: A Space for Science & Inquiry. We invite all members of the extended BPC community to participate in major campaigns.
Challenge Match Opportunities
At times, donors may offer the school larger gifts, often with the goal of stimulating higher giving overall from the broader community. The availability and timing of such matching gifts is uncertain year to year. The school endeavors to announce any such gift as early as possible in the school year, so families can plan their giving accordingly.
Spring Soirée, Auction, and Raise the Paddle
Every year, parent volunteers produce the Spring Soirée, BPC’s all–important, all-school theme party and auction. All families are encouraged to attend, socialize, eat, drink, dance, and support BPC by bidding on auction items. During the live auction, guests are encouraged to “Raise the Paddle” to support the Annual Fund or another important need.
Walkathon and Other Fundraisers
BPC engages in other all-school fundraisers as interest and opportunity arise. The Walkathon, which was debuted in spring 2013, is a recent, highly successful example of the BPC community pulling together to raise awareness and additional funds to advance school priorities.
