FreQuently Asked Questions
What is the Q+A Combined Campaign?
To wrap up the Capital Campaign for the Q Lab successfully and sustain the Annual Fund, BPC has decided to combine both campaigns into one this year. Instead of potentially making two donations, community members will be asked to make one gift that will count toward both priorities.
The Q+A Combined Campaign was adopted in response to confusion among some families over where their giving would be most welcome or effective. The school also believes this approach is more likely to increase participation and overall support. And we want every family to have the opportunity to contribute to this transformative project that benefits every student.
What’s the difference between a Capital Campaign and the Annual Fund?
At BPC the Annual Fund augments tuition and provides ongoing support for school priorities, including our financial assistance and professional development programs. By contrast, Capital Campaigns are time-limited and project-specific. Donors are asked to make a one-time, extraordinary gift to help achieve a fundraising goal to make the project possible.
Will we have combined campaigns from now on?
No. This is a unique year. The Capital Campaign for the Q Lab will conclude in early 2017. The combined campaign will be the final time families will be asked to support this project. Next year, the Annual Fund will again be the top philanthropic priority for our school.
What are the primary goals of the Q+A Combined Campaign?
The financial goal is $350,000. This includes $200,000 currently budgeted for the Annual Fund and an additional $150,000 to complete Q Lab fundraising. The participation goal is 100 percent.
Who is being asked to contribute?
Because every student benefits from the Q Lab and the Annual Fund, every current member of the BPC community is being asked to consider a gift to the Q+A Combined Campaign.
What percentage of families have donated to the Q Lab? What about the Annual Fund?
30 percent of current families have made a gift for the Q Lab. An important goal of the Q+A Campaign is to invite more families to be a part of a project that benefits everyone. In a typical year, 60-70 percent of families give to the Annual Fund. For this Q+A Campaign, we are making a concerted effort to obtain 100 percent participation across the BPC community.
Can I choose which area I want my gift to go to?
All gifts will be counted toward both for recognition purposes. But if you would like to specify that your gift go only toward the Q Lab or the Annual Fund, this is possible. If you have an outstanding pledge for the Q Lab, any gift will be applied toward this balance unless you notify us otherwise.
I’ve already given to the Q Lab. Are you asking for a second gift? Will this increase the amount of my gift?
If you have already given to the Capital Campaign for the Q Lab, thank you very much. In this case, this year we are essentially asking you for a typical Annual Fund gift. That said, your Q+A Campaign gift will add to your Q Lab total.
The building is built already; why is there a need to continue to raise money for the Q Lab?
The building is nearly complete, but we are not finished paying for it. This final push is designed to cover as much of the construction cost as possible so as to lessen the burden on the school and families in the future.
How will my gift be recognized?
All gifts to the Campaign for the Q Lab and the Q+A Campaign will be acknowledged publicly, unless the donor requests anonymity. Donor recognition planning, including an onsite donor display, is underway.
Are there naming opportunities?
Yes. Elements of the new building, including classrooms and other features, are available for donor recognition. If you are interested in discussing this option, please contact Director of Development John Ormsby at firstname.lastname@example.org or Head of School John Carlstroem.
Will you still be seeking donations after January? What about our Raise the Paddle for financial assistance and our Walkathon?
Though we will be effectively wrapping up the Capital Campaign for the Q Lab in early 2017, we will continue to accept gifts to the Q+A Combined Campaign for the remainder of the school year. Proceeds from Raise the Paddle at the Spring Soirée in March and the Walkathon in May will count toward the overall goal.
