A Green School
Black Pine Circle School was thrilled to be certified as a California Green School through the Alliance to Save Energy’s Green School’s Program. This award was a reminder that Black Pine Circle School’s dedication to environmental issues has long been a strength of our program. We are proud to say that Black Pine Circle School has cut energy expenditure within our school by more than 20% over the last few years. We’re also pleased that our student garden has won awards from the National Gardening Association.
We strongly believe in partnership to achieve our goals, so we partner closely with Nature Bridge, The Marin Headlands Institute, Egret at Aquatic Park, The Exploratorium, the California Academy of Sciences, and Save The Bay. In past years, we’ve also enjoyed partnerships with the Jane Goodall Institute, and the Berkeley Youth Alternatives (BYA) Garden. Reuse, composting, recycling, native uses of botanicals, and living in concert with other beings on the Earth are essential components of our curricula, as evidenced through our Science Fair, gardening classes, Andy Goldsworthy art units, and commitment to outdoor education programs.
